100 Free Perpetual Collage Prompts

Introduction

There are wonderful weekly and monthly prompt driven collage challenges available within the artistic community, I know because I’ve taken part in a few and thoroughly enjoyed them.

The only problem I had was the pressure to complete a collage each week was a little overwhelming for me within my busy life.

I love to create collage pages and I wanted to create a resource that I could use on those days when I was feeling less than inspired.

I’ve created these 100 Free Perpetual Collage Prompts for us all to use, the prompts themselves are wide open to interpretation so they’ll fit in with anyone’s style or theme.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Please feel free to ignore the following and just use these 100 Free Perpetual Collage Prompts as you wish, let’s just have fun creating.

There are no rules to art however I know some like guidelines:

  1. Download the Jpeg pages using the button towards the bottom of this page and print the prompts.

  2. Cut the prompts out.

  3. I attached mine to tongue depressors for longevity but you can just fold your printed prompts.

  4. Put your 100 Free Perpetual Collage Prompts into a bag or container, I put mine into a mesh bag.

  5. You’re now good to go.

  6. Anytime you feel like creating a collage, give your container of prompts a good shake and then select five of them, write them down on a piece of paper then return your original prompts to the container for next time.

IT’S THAT EASY

Alternatives to tongue depressors:

  1. Create a set of small journal cards like playing cards and attach the prompts to them to be shuffled then selected from.

  2. Use a craft punch to cut 2” discs from your card scraps and attach the prompts to them.

  3. Fold the paper prompts and just select them from a container.

  4. Choose your favourite die and cut 100 pieces of scrap card out then glue the prompts to them.

  5. Attach the prompts to individual Rolodex cards and then select at random, you could even collage the reverse of the Rolodex card.

I’m sure you’ll have many more creative ideas.

My Thought Process

When I designed these prompts I had in mind that I would create a collage within a book, I’d collage on one page and then on the opposite page I’d attach a phrase, word, poem, prayer, short story, psalm, song lyric, gratitude, a few words about how I felt whilst creating the page.

For me words form an important part of my collage process.

A single word can speak loudly so no pressure to write a novel on the opposing page.

I recommend dating and signing the completed collage as this could become an artistic journal of your journey through the year.

Notes:

  • Collage can be any size and use any medium you prefer.

Special note:

If you’re a story teller as I am, use a journal, glue book, repurposed book, collage on the right hand page and write a short story to accompany your collage on the left hand page.

If you wish, compose your wording on a separate piece of paper and then glue it onto the page.

You could even use one or two scraps from your collage page to bring the two page designs together into one coherent theme.
